I am back yet again to give you all the skinny on another much talked about Vonage issue. A lot of people recently have been reporting that while they are able to receive calls, they have no dial tone.
All of these reports are from WRTP54G or RTP-300 users. These are the units based on the TI chipset.
What Vonage did, was with a recent firmware update they altered some of the operating properties in the device in hopes of alleviating some problems.. instead it created one. Unfortunately as you all know that's they way it goes in the software and electronics business sometimes.
What was done was the operating value for the off hook power was raised from 23 to 32mv... this was done to help alleviate some problems with customers who have their devices plugged into their house wiring and are using lots of phones.
Unfortunately it was not known that it would cause this very problem. The fix for the problem is to alter this value back down to 23mv.
Vonage has made this change in the default values for the device and most of them out there should be fixed in this way by now.
if yours is still doing this, reboot the WRT or RTP and it should download a new profile.
If that doesn't fix it, you are going to have to call customer service.
Vonage CSRs have been instructed that if they get reports from customers who do have their houses connected and are using multiple phones saying that not all of the phones in the house have a dial tone, they are to increase this value to 25mv... then if that's not enough 29mv.
