Im new to the forums and I am just wanting introduce myself as a new Vonage Client. I am so happy that I am switching from my current Voip Provider Packet8. I was a loyal client to Packet8 for almost 2 years now and I still can't believe the nerve of Packet8 lately.

Here is what I am talking about:

Dear Valued Packet8 Customer,

Subject: Plan Change to Business 2000 - Exceeding Normal residential Usage

This email is in regard to the usage on your Packet8 account. According to our
records, you are using minutes that exceed what we deem to constitute personal
residential usage. In accordance with our terms and conditions, 8x8 will be
switching you to the Business 2000 plan as of April 1, 2005. Please see section
10 of the terms and conditions included below, addresses excessive usage of the
Packet8 service.

Please contact us to update your Packet8 account or notify us of your desire to
terminate service effective April 1 2005. If you do not contact us you will
automatically be converted to the Business 2000 Plan effective April 1 2005.

Details on the Business 2000 Plan are available at:

Business 2000 includes 2000 minutes of calling time in the US and Canada and
an industry low $.029 afterwards

We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing service for you.

Packet8 Billing Department

Above is the reason I am switching from Packet8 immediately. Even though they advertise "UNLIMITED" usage of their residential service plan, I think people should think otherwise of that bologne. There is nonthing unlimited about it if "they" have the sole right to switch you at their convience to a more expensive plan whenever they deem necessary.

For the past few months, I have been using 10,000 + Minutes a month on my residential plan (for personal use) and I didn't see it as "abuse" of their Voip service because I was NOT using it for business purposes or anything else for that matter that would constitute breaking their terms of use.

I look at this as being insane for me to dare think about staying with Packet8 and continuing my service with them because of the EXTREME costs now.

Their Business 2000 plan comes with 2000 anytime minutes within the US and Canada with every minute after that billed at a rate of .029 afterwards. ISNT THAT CRAZY! Who do they think I am?

10,000 Minutes a Month (my monthly usage)

Subtract 2000 = 8,000

8,000 x $0.029 = $232.00 a MONTH!!!

So, I called Vonage last night and will now offically become a Vonage Subscriber! YAY!
