Hello,
I thought I would post this as a bit of good citizenship and holiday cheer.
Over the last few weeks, I've worked hard to get my Vonage phone working behind my linksys Router (WRT54GX2). The phone worked Great in FRONT of the router, but would cause poor internet connectivity for my PCs...so this option was discarded.
Ultimately, I stumbled on a very simple technique to get everything working. Prior to this fix, my phone calles were plagued with stuttering on both sides.
Here's what you do:
1) Turn everything off. Cable modem, router, Motorola adapter.
2) Turn on the Cable modem. Wait a minute or so
3) Turn on the router. Let it sit for a minute or so.
4) Ok, here's the great trick: Log into the router. Turn OFF the firewall. This step is crucial.
5) Turn on the Vonage adapter (VT1005)
6) Wait a couple of minutes. Pick up the phone and call your voicemail to test it out. It should work great.
7) Log back into the router, and turn back ON the firewall. This isn't necessary, but highly recommended if you want to benefit from the router's firewall.
That's it! I use my phone all the time with crystal clear clarity. It's great. But, before stumbling on this little trick, it barely worked at all.
