I recently received my Vonage starter package with the Linksys RT31P2
Hello,
I recently received my Vonage starter package with the Linksys RT31P2 router, and I am having some trouble obtaining an IP for it. Up until this point, my internet connection has routed through a Linksys BEFSR41 broadband router. It has been able to get an IP address cleanly for several months now. My ISP (Ygnition) does require MAC address registration, but the MAC addresses for both routers have been given to them. In addition, I attempted to clone my BEFSR41's MAC address on to the RT31P2, just in case it was a MAC issue on Ygnition's end. No dice.
My speculation is (and this is backed by Ygnition technician comments) the Houston Metro area DHCP server is VERY slow (in their own words), and I think the RT31P2 is timing out when attempting to fetch a lease. When renewing IP address, I can tell you that my BEFSR41 waits MUCH longer for an IP than the RT31P2 does. Is there any way to adjust the timeout on the RT31P2? I could not find anything in the HTML based setup, but does the RT31P2 have a telnet interface that allows more fine tuned configuration?
Any help is appreciated. If I can't get this resolved, I am afraid I am going to have to return the kit and ask for a refund, as I simply cannot get the service to work.
