Hello

I need some help trying to connect the Linksys RT31P2 phone adapter to my network. I have tried asking both Vonage and Linksys directly, but I have not heard from them yet. I am hoping that someone here on the forum will have a bright idea.

My chief problem is that I live in the wrong place. I live in Hull, which has the amazing feature of having its own phone company. Yes, I do not have BT where I live. I have Kingston Communications instead. Plus, the building I live in does not allow me to have a Sky dish. So, I have opted to get both my broadband and my digital television signal through the phone line. My Broadmax Linkmax HSA300A ADSL modem is able to decode the tv signal from the phone line and send it via ethernet to my cable box. the modem sends the broadband via USB to my computer.

Now, my phone company has made it so that I am unable to put a router in between the modem and the computer. It doesn't help that the modem connects via USB. Also, they have told me that they do not want anything in between the two. Basically, my contract is supposed to be for one computer and one tv. Yes, weird.

Anyway, I have a wi-fi router, and worked a way around this. My wi-fi router is a Linksys WRT54GS and is connected to my computer via ethernet. The only way I got the internet to work via the ethernet was to get a proxy program, ie. Kerio Winroute Firewall 6.0.9.

so, now I want to add the phone adapter. I have been trying the past week to get it to work via the ethernet. I have opened up all the ports in my firewall program. But the phone adapter just does not seem to want to sync up with Vonage. i do not even get a dial tone.

I have taken the wi-fi router totally out of the equation...there is nothing between the phone adapter and the computer...the phone adapter is connected to the computer via ethernet.

Now, I would like to have the phone adapter be connected to the wi-fi via ethernet, or vice versa...but really, that is a moot point. I just want to figure out how to get the Vonage service to work. If need be, I'll just buy another network card.

So, what can I do?

ADSL modem -USB-> computer -ethernet-> RT31P2
