Vonage HELP!!!! Issue: Takes 10-25 seconds for a dial tone to appear after you've picked

Issue: Takes 10-25 seconds for a dial tone to appear after you've picked up the handset. Incoming calls ring both the Vonage line and the 'network unavailable' forward number but I can't pick up from the Vonage line. Even if I get the dial tone, most of the time when I dial I get that annoying number unavailable tone (its only a tone and it doesn't matter what/who/where/when I call). The really random point is that it works for 10 minutes and then not at all.

This is a brand new problem since I installed the brand new WRTP54G. All I can say is that this is obviously a piece of junk. I have called Vonage 7 times to "discuss" the problem and have spoken to three level 2 associates. The responses have been:

Level 2 tech #1 - Let me change some settings for you, that should do it, let the box settle...

Level 2 tech #2 - You need to upgrade the Firmware, go to Linksys and upgrade it (Wrong! Contacted Linksys and they said Vonage is responsible for the firmware)

Level 2 tech #3 - Can't trouble shoot my problem because I don't have a different corded phone to attach to the adapter ( I guess I need to go buy a phone even though I'd been using my cordless phone with my old Vonage adapter for over a year with no issue).. Then goes on to say let me change some settings for you on this end and let the box settle.

Level 2 tech #3 (again) - You already have the most updated firmware (It still says 1.00.20 in the upper right hand corner of the Router Web Setup Utility) Tech said that there are different firmwares for different parts of the device Voice vs. Router, etc. I don't know if this is true but its driving me nuts!!!!!

Anyway I can't get the same story from anyone. I changed adapters because I had been having trouble with my very old wireless router so I figured if I was going to change routers I might as well get the WRTP54G and do away with a few extra cables. Was I wrong? Someone please tell me they have an answer to this. I guess tomorrow I will go back to the old setup because Vonage can't seem (or doesn't care) to get this to work!
