Vonage For some reason my Vonage/Internet keeps disconnecting on me. It has happened



For some reason my Vonage/Internet keeps disconnecting on me. It has happened to me since we hooked it up, but before it was every once and a while... usually only when we reset the cable modem. Now it happens quite often just out of the blue for no reason that I know of. The problem is that the internet or phone will not work until it is corrected.

The Cable line is connected from the wall directly to the cable modem (RCA DCM425). The cable modem is connected to the Vonage Router(Motorola VT2442) which is connected to the PC. There are no more computers hooked up to the router and there are no TVs connected to the cable line.

There are 5 lights on the modem: Message, Cable Activity, Cable Link, PC Link and Internet. All of the lights should be lit up or blinking green except for the message light.

The problem however is that the PC link light will go out for no reason. If the I completly disconnect the Vonage and the Cat5 cable is plugged from modem to the computer directly there is no problem and it will light up and the internet will work.

If I want use the Vonage router the only way I know to fix this is to just keep unhooking the cat5 from the modem and/or from the router, keep resetting the modem/router and hope it turns back on. Sometimes all I need to do is unplug the cat5 that goes from modem to Vonage, Then plug it back in. Then the light will go on first try. Sometimes I can just unplug from Vonage to PC and plug it back in then it works. Most of the time its not that easy and it takes about 5-10 min to finally get it to go on. I have to keep reseting, unplugging and plugging back in the cables.

Even while writting this message the light went out and I had to unplug the cable that goes from Vonage to pc and plug it back in... then it worked.

Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm thinking there is something wrong with the Vonage adapter.

How old is ur modem? Because it looks like its a docis 1.0 and for vonage routers
It says here that it supports DOCSIS 2.0 http://www.shopping.com/xPF-RCA_RCA_DCM425_DIGITAL_CABLE
it says support docis are 1.0/1.1/2.0, that doesnt guarantee that its not a 1.0
I couldn't tell you how old the modem is really. Not sure how long cogeco stores
