Vonage First off, I don't know of an RF application that does not benefit from better signal

First off, I don't know of an RF application that does not benefit from better signal strength - either through a better antenna, more power, or both.

If you are going to sit here and tell me that the internal antenna on my phone is going to get as good a signal as a 4 foot antenna with 3 watts of power (versus 500 mW), I'm afraid no sale.

As I OWN THIS EQUIPMENT AND USE IT, let me say this, with the antenna amplifier OFF, I get maybe 2-3 bars of service. When I connect to the antenna and switch the amplifier ON, it goes to full bars of service. So it's not working, right? I get less dropped calls and better signal as well with the antenna and amp ON. So it must not be working, right?

As for brain cancer, do you know why the FCC mandates that handhelds have only 500mW of power, while car phones can have a full 3 watts?

Simple. A 3 watt transmitter next to your head is a nice way to microwave your brain. To prevent this medical malady, handhelds have been limited to a half a watt since the inception of the cell phone.

Actually, the instruction manual with the 3 watt amplifer advises a 6 meter separation between the antenna and any users (!). But few folks have that kind of distance spead in a boat or car.

Soooo...... 3 watts bad, but 500 mW is OK? Hmm.... this sort of thing is linear, like a cutoff point? I doubt it. Like anything else, someone had to make a risk assessment and a decision. And the FCC made that cutoff at a half a watt. Let's hope this government agency made an informed decision.....as government agencies are always prone to do.

Putting a low power radio transmitter next to your head for hours at a time is probably not a good idea. But then again, trying to find a causal "link" to prove this is next to impossible, given the low pwoer and continued exposure.

Give the choice, I'd rather not have a radio transmitter next to my head.

Good luck. Just why did you stay with Cingular? IMHO one of the worst wireless services
