Vonage Don't expect this issue to be resolved, it would most likely require a software

Don't expect this issue to be resolved, it would most likely require a software rewrite that makes an exception (if call is from X number, then don't ring Y number simultaneously). Any exception like this would probably significantly increase the wait time before a call is put through because it'd have to access a database first.

Logically, that is the only way this could work because your cell phone is tricked into thinking you are calling your own cell number. On all phone systems, if you call your own number it would either be 1) be busy, 2) go directly to voicemail, or 3) beep you on call waiting and eventually go to voicemail.

I also have my cell ring at the same time as my Vonage number. I have the number of rings to voice mail set so that if neither is answered, the Vonage voice mail will pick up before the cell phone voicemail will. If I set the Vonage number to ring first and then ring the cell, all calls that I didn't answer go to my cell phone voicemail.

When I use my cell phone to call home, it rings once and then immediately goes into my cell voice mail. If someone is home at my house, they know from the caller ID that it was me, and they call me back. That's been working ok for me.

A friend and I thought that a work-around might be to get a virtual number for the additional $4.99 a month and use that number to call home. Neither of use have tried it - maybe someone here with a virtual number can test this.

I think in order to stop the problem of getting the busy signal and having your Vonage voicemail record silence, you will need to activate call waiting and/or voicemail on your cell phone.

Another huge issue with this is that if my cell phone is turned off, all my calls go immediately to Vonage voicemail without even ringing, this might just be a problem with my cell carrier (T-Mobile), but you might want to check that too - I suppose the same thing would happen if the cell phone was brought into a no-service area. If you don't have call waiting active on your cell and you're talking on it, it's possible that the person calling you would either get a busy signal or go straight to Vonage voicemail. I doubt the Vonage number rings.

Hope this makes sense, I'm frustrated too.
