I used one of two Vonage lines for faxing. I fax daily to just about everywhere in the world - almost exclusively internationally. I've racked up a substantial Vonage bills for 1 minute calls as a result of failed faxes. My success rate is only about 25%. I had followed all the suggestions, low baud - I used a prehistoric brother fax which reportedly does well on Vonage - I had the bandwidth setting maxed on Vonage. All PCs were disconnected from the LAN to ensure max bandwidth as faxes are so hard and SLOW on Vonage. For security reasons the PCs are firewalled away from the Vonage router so the router can not reserve bandwidth (yes, i don't trust Vonage's security) - hence I disconnected them to fax)
I am now in the process of closing all my Vonage services. I finally lost patience with paying for their failures and requested credits on all these 1 minute calls, after hearing nothing back for weeks, dealing with the web support ""staff"" they use - who seem to kick out random canned responses to get rid of the customer as quick as possible was hell. I called Vonage and was told that the credits would likely be denied as it was not a "dedicated fax line". They were willing to steal $40, so I am pulling $200 a month in business from them.
Another reason to NOT use Vonage for international faxes - it's very slow, you have to set a low baud rate. Slow = Longer. Longer = More Expensive.
Between that, the nickel and diming (stealing), the atrocious support, and the company's questionable future, I strongly recommend you do not go for it. After all the hassle, it is not cheaper.
