Do you really think this is a "petty" thing, Scottsman? Look at Vonage's 2/26/2010 Annual 10K Report. You can find it on their Annual Filings page. See Item 7, Page 28, Management's Discussion. At the bottom of the page is a table of key metrics.

On 12/31/2009, Vonage had 2,434,896 paid subscribers. If we hold their subscriber base constant for twelve months after this fee goes into effect, Vonage would generate $0.50 x 2,434,896 = $1,217,448 per month in new fee revenue, or $14,609,376 for the year.

Is $14.6 million petty in this economy? Hardly. I'd like $14 million, wouldn't you?

Still think this 411 thing is 'free'? There appear to be 14.6 million reasons to the contrary. Still think they are not being deceptive in describing this fee? Oh, never mind. We customers aren't supposed to notice things like this.

I asked Vonage customer service to break out the cost of each part of this new fee, but they would not. Syed in Customer Service replied this afternoon:



So, Vonage won't tell me how much they're actually charging for the supposedly "free" 411 service, and how much they're charging for the E911 and 911 services. If you can find out, by all means post it here. But I tried and failed.

Scottsman, please look at one of the other metrics in the table on page 28 of the 10K. Vonage lost 155,458 paid subscribers between 12/31/2008 and 12/31/2009.

Where did they go and why? Please think about that for awhile. If you still think I'm being petty, let me know.
