Damaged beachfront property in Naples, FL? Other than the one condo building which was poorly built (who the hell was the architect & engineer who thought styrofoam was an appropriate way to build a wall? drag 'em down the street by their..), there wasn't any real damage to speak of that I've seen thus far. If you're lucky, you can find someone who's frightened of hurricanes and pick up a place (relatively) cheap. Anyone who knows Naples knows there is no such thing as cheap real estate there, but you can hope to pick up something below market value.
As far as the tax thing... I'm in a 30+ year old building...so paying taxes on a "30 year old condo", which totally ignores the fact that the condo's been gutted & rebuilt to my liking & standards (yes, there is Cat 5 wire & satellite TV in the bathroom and kitchen, etc.) The last appraiser didn't even bother to set foot inside, just did the appraisal based on prior sales...of 30-year-old condos which needed to be redone. :) Add in the Save Our Homes ammendment and homestead exemption, and suddenly paradise becomes (a little bit) more affordable.
