:-D Starband 481 Router works fine with Vonage! Customer service via email has been GREAT!! It only took 2 emails to get a fix and then one more to say they are experiencing problems and will let me know when it is fixed.
I didn't want to refute your reply regarding Satellite phone service until I experienced Vonage's Phone service myself. Now that I know the phone service works fine and there is a Vonage service problem, I wanted to pass along the info to the forum.
Starband 481 satellite router works fine w/Vonage ...if Vonage has their router and server setup properly. I have made a few calls out and it is MUCH better quality than my Verizon cell phone. I used satellite phone in Belize in 2002 so I knew this would work. I live VERY remote, Off-Grid using hydroelectric power and can put up with a bit of latency. Just have to wait till the other person is done speaking....dah....isn't this common courtesy anyways?! And don't you see this on all TV roving news reporters? The latency isn't is bad as the cell phone...can ya hear me crap! :twisted:
Anyways...on to the solution....
Vonage said to reset the voice to factory defaults and provided me with a userid/password. This alone did not work.
Next, I cloned my PC address to the WRTP54G and lo and behold there was a phone light AND a dial tone! And of course the provisioning and registration was successful. And I could make phone calls. :-D
BTW, this has been during a major snow storm in northern California where I have been in a white out most of the day!
OK....now the bad news ...
Unfortunately, I loose my Starband connection if someone called me. Perhaps something about using the cloned MAC address to get back to me?? I could hear them but they couldn't hear me. Then the Starband router recycled itself. I tested this out a few times obtaining the same results.
When I emailed Customer service back they said the following so I'll be patient:
"We see that the issue is still unresolved.
At present we are experiencing a technical in some of the areas and are engineers are working on it. The issue will be resolved as soon as possible and you will be notified."
At this time, the MAC cloning is still in effect on the WRTP54G but I no longer have the light or tone.
I just saw the Vonage Forums scroll list a WRTP54G w/bad MAC addresses....I'll go check that out also.
This forum as well as LinkSys and Techspot have been most helpful in getting Vonage up and running. So far, I am only spent three days on it. I consider that good for being in the middle of the wilderness.
