At this point, I'm really frustrated. I've been trying to get this working for about a week now.

I like to think I know a little bit about networking, I maintain my dedicated server and whatnot. But I know nothing about Voip, so I have no idea how to troubleshoot problems.

Here is my information, according to the sticky:

1. Location - Indiana
2. ISP - InsightBB
3. Speeds - They're fine
4. Cable modem - Linksys BEFCMU10
5. Vonage adapter - Linksys WRTP54G
6 . Network -

Cable -> Cable Modem -> HOMEBUILT ROUTER -> Hub -> Linksys from Vonage

7. Issues - No dial tone, no incoming, no nothing
8. TestYourVoIP - Says I'm fine (low 4s)

Not knowing any better, I didn't read any instructions or use the install CD. I figured I could figure it out. So I hooked up the Vonage Linksys router to my network, logged in to get it on the proper subnet, and reset. I tried to activate through Vonage's site, but it was asking me to sign up for a new plan. I already have a plan paid for! I then tried to activate through the "retail subscribe" link. Error on both my router's MAC address and the Linksys MAC address. Frustrated, I decided to leave it be and watch TV.

A few hours later, I called my Vonage number from my cell phone. To my surprise, my phone rang! I could recieve calls, but I could not dial out. No dial tone.

I decided to dismantle my network, and put the Vonage router first, just to make sure it worked. Unfortunately, InsightBB is not very forgiving on MAC address changes, and their website told me I would have to call them to change my account. Forget that! I decided I would put things back they way they were, with the Vonage adapter BEHIND my home build router, and fix it later. I want things behind my router; everything I've read seems to suggest this is a common scenario.

Tonight I called technical support. As soon as I said "home built router," the guy told me to put the Vonage router first. That was that, not helpful at all.

I want my Linksys Router from Vonage BEHIND my existing router. Why? Because I *am* going to use the new Linkys' wireless, and I want centralized firewall, DHCP, etc. configuration. Also, I like using a terminal window, rather than a web interface. For reference, I am using ClarkConnect on an old PC as my router. Though as I mentioned, I use the command line more than anything.

So what do I do? How do I troubleshoot this problem? I can't recieve calls, I don't have a dial tone, and the "Status" page on the Vonage router keeps saying "Provisioning failed..."

Edit: Possible questions:

1. Do I need to activate?

2: Do I need to forward ports other than UDP 5060-5063/10000-20000?

3. Did resetting and changing my settings 234098 times confuse Vonage?

4. Is there some magic "reconfigure my account" command I can use to force the Vonage-issued Linksys to try to reconnect?

5. ...?
