At first it was the static. Various changes in my configuration, upstream from my wireless router, downstream, QoS (even though my connection is very fast and I have very little PC traffic), multiple calls into Vonage... I did notice that one of the LAN ports on the RTP300 was acting funny, dropping the connection and reconnecting it (the familiar "Cable unplugged") - though I was not sure at first whether it was the RTP300, the cable or the PC card. Then, because I was running out of ports on my other router, I had no choice but to connect one pc to this RTP300. So I had to do some systematic trouble shooting to get around these dropped connections. It turned out that all of the ports on the RTP300 were bad! So, that on top of the static (a little like making a call from under the shower without giving you this clean feeling at the end) did it for me. I went to the store to get a D-Link VTA, devised a another ruse to connect that last PC and I now have crystal calls, with a clean feeling at the end ;-)
I read a number of postings about static on RTP300s. Mine seemed to appear some firmware upgrade ago, though I am not totally sure. One thing is certain, these things do go bad after a while and the static may be one of the symptoms (beyond the LAN ports that are obvious).
