As far as I know, Thibor 14 is *slightly* faster than DD-WRT, and DD-WRT is loaded up with tons of extra features. I haven't used DD-WRT, so I can't comment on it all that much. The reports in the speed difference are pretty anecdotal, and minimal, so I think either would do for you.
Thibor: Closer to "look and feel" native firmware, takes advantage of Linksys updates (if Linksys releases a new version, Thibor rebuilds his firmware over it to stay up to date).
DD-WRT: Made his own interface, went off in his own direction years ago. GOBS of features, somewhat more complex to manage, did I mention it's loaded with every feature you can imagine, then some?
For me, Thibor adds the features I want, and it works. Your mileage may vary. Both are free, so you can try each one in turn and choose that way (but PLEASE contribute a few bucks to the author when you choose one, that will encourage them to make it even better).
Also, as to the Thibor version, the firmware image that each one loads is the same. You just need to get the one that is compatible with your router's firmware loader, so Thibor can "fool" your Linksys firmware loader into loading it. For the "GL", that should be the "G v1-4" build.
Try the "G v1-4" version, and if that is the one that works on the GL series, which I'm almost 100% certain it is, post back here and let me know and I will clarify that on my self-help guide. Thanks.
