I calculated just the taxes on my December phone bill from BellSouth, and they came to $24.68. Again, that was just taxes-not phone service or of the "extras" like call waiting, voice mail, etc.-just taxes! And that's before I even make a single call! My total bill was $87.xx and I hardly ever make long distance calls. Writing that check every month is like swallowing a bitter pill, so I'll gladly suffer some of the Vonage issues to avoid sending BellSouth any more of my money.
If you already have a broadband connection, Voip is obviously cheaper. I pay Comcast $50/mo. plus tax for basic cable and the cable modem combined. So for what Vonage will save me each month over BellSouth, it's like getting all of my Comcast services for free. Hard to beat that!
