'Allo

OK, I'm taking the plunge and trying out Vonage on the 500 minute plan.
I'll use it mainly for all outgoing long distance (thereby no longer using Qwest long distance which is very reasonably priced at 5 cents a minute with $20/month maximum bill)

I'd LIKE to use the line as a fax line as well without getting a 2nd Vonage line dedicated for fax (which I believe is another $9.99/mo). Is there a way to configure the box setup to split the use? It's OK with me if incoming calls always go the fax since I plan on using this as an outgoing phone line only. I just recently got rid of my 2nd Qwest line to save money as I no longer use dial-up ISP and fax was not high enough priority to justify the cost of the 2nd line.

I'm not going to eliminate my Qwest POTS line anytime in the foreseeable future. Why?
1. Dicey 911 service with Vonage.
2. My home alarm uses the POTS line to communicate with the monitoring company. I MAY switch to a wireless upgrade for this but the phone line would still be a backup communication option.
3. I would never switch my current number to a new service like this even though that is an option in my area.

Assuming my experience is good with long distance and fax usage, I may eventually start using Vonage as a more primary phone service and add a 2nd Vonage line for fax. While using it mainly for outgoing long distance, I don't get any advantage from voice mail via email/wav or simultaneous ringing to my cell phone.

Comments?

As a total aside, I recently dumped my $55/month Sprint PCS cell phone. I use my cell rarely and hated paying all that money, but I do need it. There were slightly cheaper plans, but I have gone to Virgin Mobile. While mainly advertised for kids, it's perfect for me. NO monthly charges, all pay as you go. Only requirement is that you deposit $20 in your account every 90 days. Calls are 25 cents/minute for the first 10 minutes during a 24/hr period and 10 cents a minute thereafter. For my infrequent use and calls rarely lasting over 10 minutes, this is wonderful. The $20 lasts me for the full 90 days with some left over and whatever builds up as I add $20 will get used during periods of travel when I use it slightly more. By the way, Virgin Mobile runs on Sprint's PCS network (they buy time) with no roaming capability so you have no service when out of Sprint PCS range. Not a problem for me.

Onward and upward!
