After you disabled the Firewall in the SBG-900, did you power cycle it? This is a common issue and what most people do not know is that the actual feature change on the firewall does not take place until after the firewall setting is changed and SBG-900 is then power cycled. Just disabling it in the web interface does not turn it off. All of the port forwarding and DMZ will not help. The SBG-900 is notorious for not implementing NAT properly.

What happens is that on outbound phone calls, Vonage waits to send packets to your IP until they receive packets from you when your telephone adapter is behind a NAT. This does not happen on Inbound calls. The packets can be sent instantly. When the packets hits the router / firewall, it blocks the IP sending the packets to you. Under normal conditions a real NAT firewall will allow these packets in once the client starts sending packets out. But in the SBG-900's case, it was not built correctly and bans the IP sending you packets for the entire session. Some other routers that also have poorly implemented NAT solutions not only block the packets from the IP that sent them to you but even block the packets going out.

A true router will only block inbound packets from an unknown source IP until an internal client starts sending traffic to it. The SBG-900 is a not a good piece of hardware.

There is absolutely nothing Vonage support can do. If you disable the firewall, reboot the SBG-900 and it still does not work, get yourself a real standalone modem. Combo modem routers are terrible to begin with.

The SB-5100 would not perform NAT as it is not a router. It is just a standalone modem
