Vonage After moving over to Vonage, and having some of the standard troubles that appear

After moving over to Vonage, and having some of the standard troubles that appear to exist all over in the Vonage Forums, I thought it might be a good idea to describe my configuration experience to help others in setting up Vonage.
The Setup Booklet is nice and all, but it just doesn't cover all the possible scenarios, equipment, and problems.
I contacted Vonage Tech Support (who has their hands full), and they helped, but I am the one who phrased the quote; "Techs don't let Techs call Tech Support".
I imagine that is why Vonage-Forums was developed, to help everyone get support from those with experience, without having to call tech support.

My installation looks something like this:

1. Cable service line (Comcast)
2. Cable modem (Motorola Surfboard SB5120)
3. Router (WGT624 v2)
4. Vonage Voip modem (Linksys PAP2)
4. Several Wired and Wireless Computers

This setup requires a little more in the way of setup, as the Port Forwarding or Port Triggering must be setup on the Router, and the PAP2 should have the Static IP set manually.

First:
Connect the Linksys PAP2 Voip modem to the Router.
Connect the power and a phone to Phone Line 1.
Using the Phone, Access the Menu/Configuration system on the PAP2 with "****", yes, that’s 4 asterisks. A nice voice will come on and tell you to enter in an item and hit "pound" (#).
First things first, you should enter 101# and then option 1 to disable the Dynamic IP, and 1 to save the setting.
Then you should enter 111# and the IP address you have chosen for your device. Most internal IP addresses are in the 192.168.X.X range, so I used 192.168.101.101 (my internal network is on the 192.168.101.X subnet).
To enter this you dial in 192*168*101*101# and 1 to save the setting.
Then the network is on the 255.255.255.0 subnet. So you enter 121# and 255*255*255*0# and 1 to save.
Finally, enter 131# to add the Gateway IP Address, which is the Router's IP. In my case, it is 192.168.101.1, so enter 192*168*101*1# and 1 to save.
Then make your life easy and reboot the PAP2 with 732668# and hang up.
The PAP2 will reboot, and show a ready status, but will not yet be connected to the Vonage service.
If you are unsure what the IP and Subnet Mask and Gateway are, you can find that information from your computer. The Computer's address and all the rest of it will be the same as what you will want to set-up for the PAP2, only you will want to use a unique IP address.

Second:
For the NetGear WGT624, you need to go into the Router's setup pages. This is found by opening a browser and entering the Router's IP address, and entering your Username and Password.
Select the "LAN Setup" menu item, and on that page, set a reserved IP address of the one you used to program the PAP2, in other words, reserve 192.168.101.101, and save this setting.
"Port Forwarding" is the next selection from the menu. On this page, select the button "Add Custom Service" and enter in:

Service Name: VoIPOne
Start Port: 5060
End Port: 5070
IP Address: 192.168.101.101
Save and add another one as follows:

Service Name: VoIPTwo
Start Port: 53
End Port: 53
IP Address: 192.168.101.101
Save and add another one as follows:

Service Name: VoIPThree
Start Port: 69
End Port: 69
IP Address: 192.168.101.101
Save and add another one as follows:

Service Name: VoIPFour
Start Port: 10000
End Port: 25000
IP Address: 192.168.101.101
Save and add another one as follows:

Service Name: VoIPFive
Start Port: 123
End Port: 123
IP Address: 192.168.101.101
Save the final one.

I retrieved all these ports from NetGear's website, as well as Vonage's website, and the PAP2 User Guide.
I have not yet figured out how to use Port Triggering, which is a more secure way to set up the NetGear Router.

Once this is done, you should be able to get a Dial Tone from Vonage.

I did run into a different problem, and this is how the story goes from here...

I received an invitation to join Vonage from a friend. As you know, the refer-a-friend program is a nice little incentive for you to get others to join.
So I thought I would join, as I was sick of QWest, anyway. During my sign-up process I selected the RTP300 as the "free" Voip modem device.
However, Circuit City had an excellent deal on the PAP2, where I paid $63 (with tax) and I will get a $25 and a $100 rebate from both Circuit City and Vonage. So, in essence, they are paying me $60 to join their service.
My account had the RTP300's MAC address associated to it, so I had to re-associate my account with the PAP2's MAC Address to get the thing working. Unfortunately, there is no way to do this from the Vonage Dashboard. I would like to see another feature on the Dashboard that would report the current Hardware MAC Address(s) of the devices associated to the account, with a link to the following web page "http://www.vonage.com/retail_subscribe/" to change or add devices.
This would save a lot of time over having to call or email tech support (it only took 3 days and about as many emails to get this information).
Once I had the new MAC address associated to my account, I got a Dial Tone, and was able to make phone calls.

Hope this helps...

-E
