8 hours my foot... The Verizon FIOS, Comcast, and BrightHouse Voip boxes only run for ~4 hrs on a good day (from what I've seen). Also, some of these (I forget which ones specifically) stop providing an internet connection on loss-of-power.
You actually don't need huge batteries for long runtimes if you keep everything DC rather than doing a DC->AC->DC conversion, which is terribly inefficient. (well under 50% if you're trying to power a Voip adapter off a traditional UPS) The DC adapters for the Voip devices are terribly inefficient. Just taking the label info right off the adapter, an adapter for an RTP300/WRTP54G/PAP2 v2.0 is as follows:
AC In: 23 watts
DC Out: 12 watts
For a PAP2 1.0:
AC In: 36 watts
DC Out: 10 watts
Granted, these are usually listed maximums, but it gives you an idea of how inefficient these wall-warts are.
