255.255.255.0 is the subnet *mask* which is proper for 192.168.x.x IP addresses.

All IP addresses of the form 192.168.15.n are in the same subnet

All IP addresses of the form 192.168.1.n are in the same subnet which is distinct from 192.168.15.n

So, each different "third part" of the address defines a different subnet. Each one has 254 different addresses (last part being 1-254)

That said, the 124 and 300 each have two IP addresses - one for the WAN interface and one for the LAN interface. In addition, each one can be set up to give out IP addresses to LAN-connected devices. Those addresses must be part of the unit's LAN subnet and you can usually configure the device to only hand out from a block of the subnet's addresses (like 100-150).

The 124 probably gets it's WAN IP address from the Cable modem via DHCP.

What is the 124's LAN address? What addresses does it pass out to LAN-connected devices via DHCP?

What is the 300's WAN address? Is it hard-coded or does it get it from the 124 via DHCP?

What is the 300's LAN address? What addresses does it pass out on it's LAN side?

Mark

RTP 300 behind a firewall... anyone able to do this?

I have a netgear fvs124 router/firewall and an rtp300. The rtp 300 works fine as
I haven't been in your situation, but try putting the RTP300 in the Netgear's DMZ.
There isn't a DMZ on the netgear FVS124G
Yes, the FVS124 does not have a true DMZ feature. It does by default block all inbound
Thanks for the reply.. I actually did this for the one static ip I set up for the rtp300...
Ports used by Vonage Adapters The following ports are needed for OUTGOING
I tried the settings above.. still doesn't work.. any other ideas? Thanks Rich
You don't need any port forwarding for Vonage to work, so I'm not surprised it didn't
Going to test this companies router.. they say it will work behind a firewall..
I agree, you shouldn't need to forward./open any ports anywhere. Question
