4. Motorolla SBS5120 Cable Modem Surf Board

5. Linksys WRTP54G

6. The WRTP54G is connected to the Cable modem via Ethernet. Then the Cable Modem is connected to my PC via a USB Cable.

7. I just got the package I ordered from Vonage this morning. I took everything out and read the installation instructions and did as I was required. I was setting this thing up for my Mom who has no idea how to do it. Ok so when I'm done installing everything, I check everything out. I can surf the internet without a problem using the Internet Explorer Browser and Mozilla Firefox browser. I also tested the wireless function by connecting a Wireless-B device to the router which was a PlayStation Portable. Everything checked out fine and I was able to connect to the internet with my PSP. Next I check out to see if there is a dial tone, which there was. i do a test call, and it worked out good. I was all set.

However, after a while, the WRTP54G device didn't have the Phone 1 light on. I check for a dial tone and there is none, i also checked to see if it ws on Tone or Pulse and it was on Tone. Still no luck. However, I can still surf the web without a problem, so i figured that wasn't an internet connection problem. I then test out the wireless function again and try to connect to the internet using my PSP again. However this time when I try to connect with my PSP to the internet, it does not work. But the wireless light is on. All the meanwhile the Internet light is blinking. So I disconnect both my router and cable modem. I then connect the ethernet cable to the cable modem and to the blue ethernet port again. Then I plug in my cable modem to the electricity socket again to turn it on. Once allt he lights are lit up and stopped blinking, I plug in the router to the socket and the power light turns on, starts to blink, and then stops and its lit up. The wireless light turns on and is lit up. The internet ligth is on, and starts to blink rapidly like always.

Still no luck, the Phone 1 light is off, and I get no dial tone, and I still can't connect my PSP wirelessly like before. So I re-do the whole installation process about 3 times before giving up. I even left both cable modem and router off for about 10 minutes, and redid the installation procces but to not success. However, i can still surf the internet. What could the problem be?

Also, another problem. I noticed that the WRTP54G box didn't come with either a Blue Colored ethernet cable nor a setup disc for the router. I got over the no blue cable since I used the yellow one on the blue ethernet port. But without a setup disc, I could'nt access the setup menu for the router. So I look through the manual, and I see i need to type in the router's default Ip Address in my browser to access the Web-based utility for the router. I do so on both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers, with both browsers either re-directing me to an MSN search page(IE) or a "Firefox cannot establish a connection to the server at (IP address)"(Firefox). I tried to get rid of any dial up settings I had on both browsers or on my PC like the manual said, but I had none. Now I have no idea about what i should do. I'm hoping someone here can help me. Also, if it's of any use, I'm pretty sure I have a Dynamic IP because I think ComCast changes my IP at times.

Sorry for the long post but I was trying to be as detailed so i can get some help, I'm going crazy.

Having dial tone and wireless problems with WRTP54G

Oh wow I just redid the whole installation process again for lliterally the 22nd
Let me get this straight... You have your Router plugged in to the ethernet port
Go Ethernet & ditch the USB connection. MUCH better performance & stability
As an alternative to an ethernet card for the computer (if it has none) an inexpensive
All right thanks for the tip, Im gonna connect the wireless router to my cable modem
Ok first of all, my package didn't come with 2 ethernet cables. It was supposedly
It sounds as if you've got the right connections now. The next thing you have to
A few details about the computer please? Operating system? First off if it's
Argh I should have thought of that, I forgot when i setup the Modem, it was setup
